clé tile‘s introduction of ruan hoffmann’s postcards to myself range of artist tiles comes at just the right time; providing a non-conformist floor tiling with a nod to the traditionalist encaustic tile, is severely refreshing. to me the greatest advantage is the artistic imperfections that form part of the range and remains truthfully reproduced by clé. the retro-renewed abstracted aesthetic of the near-hypnotic patterning from this range provides an excellent foil to modern or classic, interior or exterior spaces, both small and large. with the injection of nostalgic colonial overtones, and with respect to my personal connection; i may be prejudiced but find the effect of the repetition of the imagery super-enlivening.
