the photographic work of greco-american artist lucas samaras has always interested me - his mutilative polaroid photo-transformations are specifically notable but more still is the notion of using himself almost exclusively as the subject. with our current technological abilities it might not seem so radical but the manipulation of his self portraits during the seventies resulted in a grand acknowledgment of his artistry at the time. the study of self and specifically the actualization of self is an enduring theme in art; samaras embodies this fascination - as a renowned recluse, he obviously does not tire of himself… something i consider a seriously underrated advantage to any artist.
